Our Mother was a Wall
When we said we wanted to do a Wall Family Tree Record
she said she could not understand why we would want to do that because
"we might find out something we did not want to know"
One thing that has not been answered has been what caused James Wall to die from
"five days exposure to the cold"
at Irishtown Walcha.
James Wall's widow died in 1888
at the home of Katie Dignam a few miles south of Walcha on the Aberbaldie Road.

ReplyDeleteClyde for sale
ReplyDeleteClyde agriculture is up for sale. Parent company John Swire and Sons has announced it will concentrate on its core business of transport and logistics.
All of clyde's agricultural holdings are up for sale. That includes 13 properties in NSW and one in QLD.
That includes Lakeside and Wirribilla near Walcha.
Clyde says it's a good time to sell with many of their priorities in the best position they've been in years after recent rains.
06 Jan, 2005 09:00 PM
RURAL property prices have generally steadied after the heady gains of the past two years, but only after most agents reported one of their best spring selling seasons.
Thanks to strong demand from farmers wanting to expand, and continued demand from city buyers for well-located "getaway" properties, values have held up surprisingly well.
While prices of Sydney real estate have sagged by up to 15 per cent since June as investors fled the market, mainly in response to new State Government taxes, rural property values were broadly maintained.
Clearance rates of rural property at auction also defied the gathering gloom in Sydney, despite disappointing results in the closing weeks of the season.
Since July, 140 of the 255 rural properties (commercial farms and lifestyle blocks of 40ha or more) advertised for auction through The Land sold either under the hammer, beforehand or shortly after Ð a clearance rate of 55pc.
In addition, many properties passed in were later sold by private negotiation.
The 102 advertised properties sold at or after auction during spring made $171 million.
That equates to an average of $1.68 million, although the average is somewhat distorted by the inclusion of a $40-million-plus cotton farm aggregation, by far the year's biggest sale.
Removing that sale, the average comes back to a more realistic $1.3 million, compared with a $1.5 million average for 120 properties in 2003.
The "bell ringer" for 2004 was the post-auction sale to the Marchant family of the 14,881ha "Gubbagunyah"/"Oonavale"/"Warendi " aggregation on the Border Rivers for an undisclosed price more than $40 million.
The sale was negotiated by Ray White Rural, for whose founding director, Bruce Gunning, 2004 was a vintage year for "big ticket" irrigation farm sales. (He said sales in which he "had a hand" totalled more than $100 million.)
Other Ray White auction sales were "Bronte" at Moree ($8m, in conjunction with Ronald Hunter, Moree); "Edenmore", Burren Junction ($10m), and "Glenryan", Yass ($4m, with Dal Hanrahan, Yass).
Landmark's best sales were "Curragundi", Moree ($9.8m); Bangate Station, Walgett (about $6m); Yarras Station, Wauchope ($4m), and "Pidgee", Binnaway (about $3m).
Elders sold Woorooma Station, Moulamein (about $8m); "Wansey", Cumnock (more than $4.9m); the aggregation of "Nevena"/"Flodden"/"Winduella" near Purlewaugh (over $3.8m), "Berilee", Croppa Creek ($3.8m); Tia River Station, Walcha (over $3.3m), and the "Inverness"/"Wilga" aggregation at Warialda (more than $3m).Other sales worthy of note included "Wraybourne", Merah North, sold by Moree Real Estate and Landmark Cramsie McRae Thomas, of Narrabri, for about $4.5m; "Island View" and "Old Eugowra" at Eugowra, sold for about $5m by Schute Bell, Sydney, and "Manx Park", Sutton Forest, sold by William Inglis and Son for $4.8m.
The biggest private treaty sale was the Landmark sale of Mike Faulkner's Walcha high-rainfall grazing properties based on "Wirribilla", bought by Clyde Agriculture walk-in, walk-out for about $15m.
